Sriranjini Santhanagopalan – a new discovery of abundant talent

There is something to be said about being the child of a musician, somehow, be it the genes, or hereditary, or the fact that you grow on the sounds of octaves ringing throughout the periphery of the house, the singers emerging from their shadows certainly seem to outperform most others. Sriranjini, proved this to me for sure. More about that later.

Yesterday was a discovery day for me. I was caught between which afternoon concerts I should choose to attend.
I decided to take a chance with Cuddalore Jananiy, a disciple of Balamuralikrishna and Sriranjini Santhanagopalan, the daughter of mastreo Neyveli Sanhanagopalan. Am I glad I went for these. Both brought a freshness to the music for sure.

Jananiy showed her talent in a very enjoyable concert. Her singing of ‘kai vidamaataan kanaka sabesan’ was simply melodious and a treat to listen too. Another enjoyable rendering was Tulasee Dalamulache.

The surprise of the season so far has been Sriranjini Santhanagopalan. Honestly, I went not knowing what to expect. Of course found her father sitting in the 1st row to show moral support.

The audience was packed in the mini hall, and I really mean packed. By the time the concert started the walking pathways to the hall was also fully packed with listeners squatting. Just looking at the crowd, I knew that she must be good, and also realized that the expectations were high.
My, did she entertain! Her concert was thoroughly enjoyable, a very high energy concert, that had the audience clapping very so frequently. Indeed, for me a real discovery of someone, I won’t miss for years to come.
Her resonant voice showed the benefit of tutelage and genes from here father. Her
Gurulka Yetuvanti, Raaga Sudaarasa and her RTP were rendered beautifully, with the audience clapping frequently, showing their enjoyment and appreciation.
To me this truly was a discovery in talent, so far this season.
