Beautifully rendered monsoon raag Malhar by Pt. Sudhindra Bhaumik brings rains to NJ
Call it coincidence, call it the powers of music, what otherwise was a hot and sultry day here at NJ, was treated by some nice cooling downpour. Interestingly this happened during the concert by Pt. Sudhindra Bhaumik. After a beautiful rendering of Raag Marwa and a short rendering of Raag Hemkalyan, he continued the beautiful evening performance organized by IAPA, with compositions in varients of Raag Megh, well known as the monsoon raag. two beautiful compositions in megh malhar, followed by a composition in Ramdasi Malhar, seemed enough for the gods above to send showers. Phew! what a beautiful sight indeed. One could feel the sun that otherwise blinded the singer, masked suddenly by the clouds and soon turned into a downpour. A rare sight, a rare feeling of being blessed for sure.
Overall, a very lovely evening, as we were treated to the very melodius voice of Pt. Sudhindra. His dhrupad style of singing and his taans were very delightful and very enagaging indeed, as he brought the style of his Agra Gharana. He concluded his recital with a rarely heard Bhairavi Thappa.
He was very well accompanied by Anirban Roy on the tabla, Rohan Prabhudesai on the harmonium and by Sunita Kapoor on the Tanpura with occasional vocal support.
