This certainly was a rare jugalbandhi concert – Sudha Raghunathan and Kaushiki Chakraborty in Chennai.

Beautifully rendered solos was followed by joint compositions. Indeed a great heart moving concert.

This concert was organized by an association called Manabendra Smaraney and drew a packed audience. Sudha’s soulful singing was indeed heart rendering, and Kaushiki gave a neat elaboration of raag Maru Bihag.

Both the solo performances were followed by a jugalbandhi.

Its nice to see two promnent artists together, with humility and respect for each other’s talent. Sudha’s encouraging gestures to Kaushiki and Kaushiki’s respect for this legendary singer was readily applauded by the audience through out the concert.

  • I am so delighted to hear about this unique jugalbandhi; which was held in Chennai two days ago. This must have been a unique opportunity for connoisseurs to witness personally. Alas, I couldn’t attend as I reside in UK. Albeit, I am aware of both the vocalists as we regularly feature them via our Surtarang [Waves of Melody] Broadcast from Wolverhampton, UK. I also imagine that they would respect each other’s quality as they are both world renowned vocalists and are very humble. I love their individual singing styles very much. I am glad to note that it was well rendered and well attended concert in Chennai. I wish they could perform together here in UK too and there could be many more jugalbandhis like this in the near future. I am sure they will be well received in Germany and Amsterdam.

If possible, if you could send us their recording via an MP3, we would like to broadcast their music via Surtarang [Waves of Melody] Broadcast which is accessible via the Internet.

I would like to thank Dileep Srinivasan ji for submitting this unique video clip for us.

  • I was just a listener that too from US on a visit o India. I was just lucky to catch this unique concert. You may want to contact the organizers via their facebook page Mannabendra Smaraney to see if they have a recording and can be provided.
