A rare Jugalbandhi brings about a unique musical experience

Submitted by on March 30, 2013 – 1:41 amNo Comment

Today Cleveland was rocked by a couple of unique performances. a rare Jugalbandhi of a south indian Instrument – Nadaswaram and a north indian instrument – Shehnai by a pair of brothers; Subhan Kasim & Subhan Babu (Nadaswaram) and Ashwani Shankar & Sanjeev Shankar (Shehnai). To complement this was another duo by the accompanying artists Panchapakesan Natarajan on thavil & Tanmoy Bose tabla.

The performance was a delight to the ears and indeed very entertaining. They doubles pair performed a composition in Raag Sindhu Bharavi. Two totally different styles very different instruments with different decibels, but bringing about a unique experience.

Both the nadaswaram and shehnai are seldom payed solo, they are both played in drone – active pairing fashion.

Also, Thavil and Tabla are unusual instruments, one never sees together. The artists brought about a symphony of truth today, that music can be enjoyed in any form or any ombination, as long as its played with artistry.

What a great start to this easter weekend.
