Carnatic or Hindusthani the music is Indian – Ajoy Chakraborty

This was originally slated to be a Jugalbandhi between Dr. Balamuralikrishna and Pt. Ajoy Chakraborty. I believe due to some funny visa issues( which I will not remark here), Dr. balamurali could not make this trip.

I must say, at the end it did not matter as we were given a beautiful evening of vocal music by Ajoy Chakraborty. his soft and sweet rendition of Raag Bhupali was beautifully followed by an east – west journey of fusion within the classical boundaries through Raag Kirwani. It certainly was a delight to hear both pieces and showed how indian music can attract all genres.

I also loved the point Ajoy ji made that he teaches over 1500 students and what he teaches is not Carnatic or Hindusthani, but Indian music. So well said indeed.
