There was nothing short of magic in the air today at the 36th Cleveland Thyagaraja Aradhana annual festival of music and dance.

The atmosphere was simply unimaginable, with packed audience, stellar vidwans, music teachers, and musicians packing the auditorium into a jam packed gathering of music lovers.

Little children tapping to the beats of the music, to individuals using ipod to sing in synchronization marked a very unique experience, not to be found anywhere else.

The Pancharatna Kritis are five compositions by the great Saint composer Thyagaraja. These 5 compositions are sung in praise of the Hindu god Rama. They are arguably the most well known and widely sung kritis (compositions) in Carnatic Music.

Every year to celebrate this great poet and composer, Carnatic musicians converge at Cleveland and a 12 day festival of music and dance happens that bring scores of musccans from all over the world, hundreds of upcoming and young children so that they can also compete in music competitions here. One of the highlights is the group performance of the Pancharatna Kritis by hundreds of people, including very famous musicians and vidwans. These 5 kirthis are sung in an electrifying atmosphere.

This year I believe has the largest gathering with 85 artists from india, 125 artists from US and over 2000 rasikas in attendance.

In attendance were top singers and instrumental percussionists and others, to name a few, it included Sudha Raghunathan, Gayathri Venkatarahgavan, Trichur Ramachandran, Nagai Muralidharan, Mannargudi Easwaran, Neyveli Santhanagopalan, Carnatica Brothers and many more.

This is possibly the largest gathering of Carnatic Music fans outside India.

This picture is of one of the girls performing at the festival. Short 10 minute opportunity is given to upcoming and interested singers. The speed and process is quick and efficient giving many learners an opportunity to be heard.

What an experience indeed.
