The Awakening – A provoking sculpture at National Harbor MD

Head to the waterfront at the National Harbor (near Washington D. C.), and the first sight that attracts you is two beautifully carved eagles majestically soaring at a height around 100 ft.

Walk closer to that and face the waterfront and you spot a creepy looking hand as if jutting out of the water to grab you.

Walk closer to this and it reveals a fascinating 5 piece iron sculpture depicting of a giant bearded man breaking free from the earth. This sculpture is a primary attraction at the beach front at National Harbor, overlooking the Potomac river, and spans over 70 ft across.

This cast iron sculpture was designed by J Seward Johnson Jr.

The waterfront is a lively area overlooking anchored boats, a string of restaurants and additional pieces of art.

The other pieces of art includes a terrazzo mural of the Chesapeake Bay on a raised belvedere, some beautiful pieces of mosaic including the famed Baltimore.
